Brief History:
Since 1998, the Joyce L. Sobel Family Resource Center, also known as the San Juan Island Family Resource Center, has served as the primary centralized drop-in, resource and referral organization for delivery of social services and support programs to over 1,000 San Juan Island households each year. The Family Resource Center was initially founded to provide our community with quality early childhood support programs such as youth mentoring, parenting classes, and parent-child playgroups that help reduce child abuse and optimize child development and family well-being. Over the years, our services have expanded to include assistance with many of the basic necessities of life such as emergency rental and utilities assistance, transportation, mental health counseling and access to medical care. The Center also offers group and individualized programs that provide education, psychosocial support and case management with the goal of promoting stability and well-being for all members of our community.
